Still Time to Back ‘Suicide Squad’ Creator’s Vampire Comic on Kickstarter

John Ostrander’s been writing badass comic books for decades now, but the number of you coming to this site searching for Suicide Squad tells us you don’t need to reminded. Creating that title for DC Comics, he’s in the spotlight, so what better time to launch a Kickstarter for Kros: Hallowed Ground with longtime collaborator Tom Mandrake?

Ostrander’s stories frequently venture into the western, detective, and monster genres, so long-time fans are excited to see all three converge here. Kros is a dampyr, a half-vampire who hunts vampires. You may be reminded of Blade, but here’s the hitch that suddenly turns this into a spaghetti western: Kros is hunting his prey amid the Civil War, and now he’s smack in the Battle of Gettysburg. Blood everywhere, and the one guy who can stop its supernatural predators and scavengers is tempted to drink himself.

Groovy.

The book reached its funding goal and is now offering stretch incentives, but you can still get the original incentives with support starting at $1 and ranging up to $1500 to actually appear in the comic with a speaking role, interacting with the main characters. (In Man Cave’s case, this would inevitably lead to playing the town drunk who’s so hopped up on corn likker he “plumb cain’t believe muh peepers! That feller’s a v-v-v-vampire!”)

Hurray up, though. Less than one day left to see your name on the list of people who made this 19th Century badassery happen.

Brendan McGinley is editor round these parts when not writing comics or Cracked columns. You can say a neighborly hello to him on Twitter @BrendanMcGinley. You’d probably enjoy his supervillain comic Heist, if you’re a fan of tarnished souls and brutal retribution.

Down we go.

Crime pays.
